Flower Festival

This year’s edition will have some novelties such as the classic automobile parade closing the enlarged program.

The Flower Festival is a tribute to spring and the climate that allows flowers from the four corners of the world to bud in Madeira, an island known the world over as the island of flowers and this is a way of celebrating nature’s diversity.

To be held from the 7th to the 17th of April, this year’s festival will have some innovations. The main one is the Auto Classic Flower Parade, joining flowers and classic automobiles it will go down the streets of the city on the afternoon of the 17th of April.

This will be a second parade, adding to the traditional Flower Parade that since 1979 has filled the streets with hundreds of people and sumptuous themed floats. This year, it will be on Sunday, the 10th of April.

On the day before that, hundreds of children will parade to Praça do Município to erect a beautiful wall of flowers symbolically named ‘The Wall of Hope’. Each child shall take a flower and leave it on the wall. The Flower Festival’s program also includes the Flowers Market, an exhibition of floral tapestry set along Avenida Arriaga.
