Sushi by the sea

Part of The Cliff Bay’s solarium turned into summer restaurant.

The setting is a most unusual one with the sea less than a meter away where you can almost touch it. And in the distance, the bay of Funchal, with the sun bidding its last farewells as the day comes to a close. It is Friday and this part of The Cliff Bay’s solarium has been transformed into a restaurant and given a taste of the sea.

The event goes by the name of ‘Sushi by the Sea’ but has much more to offer than its name suggests through a fresh, seasonal menu. The initiative runs every Friday until the end of August.

The atmosphere is imbued with both the fragrance of the sea and the light musical selections of a DJ.Where drinks are concerned, there is wine, champagne and also Gin.The closeness to the sea works the rest of the magic. Sushi, sashimi, ceviche or calf are all part of a menu teeming with fresh desserts.

Once a month, this adapted restaurant is visited by Paulo Morais, the Portuguese sushi master who has been a part of the project from its very beginning.

On Wednesdays, the space undergoes a different transformation so as to accommodate the Il Gallo D’Oro’s team, awarded two Michelin stars, who take on the challenge of ensuring the same levels of quality in the same space.

The menu presented by Chef Benoît Sinthon’s team is based around fish and seafood.
