The 21st century '60s

There’s been a return to the ‘60S, to the Style and the bold approach of those who wanted to break the strickt, well-behaved rules of the ‘40S and ‘50S.

Trapeze dresses, Cubist-inspired patterns, XL glasses and dark lenses, square or rectangular handbags – these are some of the most talked-about key trends for the coming Spring/Summer season, where women can have a more fun, colourful style that's minimalist in the size of some of the pieces and, above all, with an assertive stance.

The 1960s went down in history for various political, economic, artistic and musical reasons, and for having changed the way in which a woman presents herself to the world. The skirts became dramatically shorter; bikinis were the great sensation; flat shoes were no longer the order of the day; and tight, tapered trousers were their downfall.

In 2015, five decades later, fashion once again pays tribute to and is inspired by this golden decade for female affirmation which, over time, saw women fight for the same or similar rights as men, and which continues even today. Clothing was one of the broken boundaries and bodies were exposed without shame or inhibition, with clothes that left little or nothing to the imagination.

Painting and music exchanged ideas with fashion and fashion drew originality and creativity from painting and music. Few fashion designers, such as Yves Saint Laurent, didn't reproduce the colour or pattern ideas of important painters of that time.

But it would be wrong and quite inaccurate if we didn't mention the importance of the divas of European cinema – French and Italian in  particular – , and American cinema in general, which explored the image of sexy, provocative women, such as Sophia Lauren, Gina Lollobrigida, Silvana Mangano, Claudia Cardinale, Catherine Deneuve, Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor, to name just a few, who appeared on and off the silver screen with outfits that both men and women alike lusted after.

Many of them were fashion designers’ muses, and many others managed to create their very own style. The upcoming SS 2015 collections are a return to the past through cuts and colours, but using new technologies and key analogies to this day and age.

The purity of the look isn't essential, but rather it's a mixture of pieces that evoke the style that marked different eras. Teased and voluminous hair complements the trends, as well as heavier make-up, especially around the eyes.
