Fashion trends autumn-winter 2015/2016

What should I buy? What should I wear? What goes with what? Just some of the questions that top into your head when the new collections hit the stores and you start to compile your wardrobe for the coming seasons, in this case autumn-winter 2015/2016.

Every six months, if not earlier, we are struck by the dilemma about what to wear in the coming seasons. The desire to keep on-trend, to follow the dictates of trendsetters, to attend fashion show after fashion show, feeling as if the world has no meaning without mastering the next fashion. In actual fact none of this should concern you.

To hit the right fashion note all you need to know are the stand-out trends in collections and then to look for what truly favours your body type. The 21st century has brought with it the advantage of having one trend and many fashions every season, and that this variety can be mixed and matched, as long as it is properly interpreted.

In the coming FW 2015-16, the 70s continue to make their mark: straight-cut or slightly skewed trousers; tops are semi-transparent and classic cut; jackets are short and feature belts, protected by long, broad leather jackets, with colours ranging from nudes to olive green, brown, red, grey and black.

Nonetheless, the trend inspired by this decade, in which love, freedom and peace dictated movements around the globe, also features vibrant colours and patterns, fly-away, floaty cuts, fluid fabrics, all designed with comfort, joie de vivre and nature in mind.

The synergy ignited between opposites results in modern and cosmopolitan creations, calling for new approaches to the trend itself, which can be seen when brands such as Korean duo Gyo Kim and Yuni Choe create a collection in which grunge is the inoperative motto, while the UK’s Burberry follows the hippy/ethnic style or US Tommy Hilfiger sticks to its preppy credentials, stopping off at the world of American football.

Each brand chooses a guideline, which fits in the format of the trend, while not forgetting to panda to its customers. Every season consumers are not obliged to follow a given line, they should, first and foremost, find the right balance to be able to combine the different styles creating their image, an increasingly visible  phenomenon in major capitals with slow-fashion (luxury) trendsetters.

Being fashionable nowadays is knowing to wear opposites with an open mind and with attitude. Mixing a short, striped A-line dress, with a ‘perfect’ jacket, Stan Smith trainers, silver skull ring and clutch or short-handled bag.

In this look there are different inspirations, which vary between the 60s and the 90s and which fashion has revisited, without prejudice or stigmas, appealing to your imagination: Carolina Herrera, Dior, Saint Laurent, De la Renta, Prada, Gucci, Hilfiger, Burberry, Osman, Vera Wang, Vivienne Westwood, Michael Kors, Tom Ford, Ralph Lauren, Diesel, Dries Van Noten, Comme dês Garçons or Issey Miyake. Never forgo a vintage piece, or two, to add the perfect touch to whatever may be in fashion.
