Sailing days

Between Madeira and the Canary Islands, the MSC Opera spends two full days at sea

A day on board a cruise ship can be an opportunity. There is plenty of time to explore the ship's facilities and hours that can be used for rest and leisure.

The Madeira-Canary Islands cruises, an operation that MSC Cruises runs until 20 March 2025, offer two of these so-called sailing days. They are precisely the first after boarding and the last before disembarking from the perspective of those who start and end their journey in Funchal. They correspond to the transit days between the archipelagos of Madeira and the Canary Islands.

The offer on the MSC Opera is varied. To begin with, breakfast, either buffet or a la carte can be enjoyed later. The on-board activities program is also enhanced, with activities by the pools or in the various bars, which are closed during the day and become entertainment areas.

The Med Pearl Casino is also open, as are the shops, which are taking advantage of the day to activate a range of promotions. Watches, beauty and cosmetic products, and MSC branded products are among the offers in the various duty-free shops.

For those looking for movement, the shopping area is one of the places to be. The cafés are full, and the corridors show a rhythm equivalent to that of a small town. However, in the solarium area of the swimming pools, the greatest number of people are concentrated because even though it is winter, the temperatures are usually mild.

If, on the other hand, you prefer a quiet area to read or chat, or simply enjoy the trip, there are places like the small board games room, or even the disco lounge, which during the day becomes a place where silence reigns.

Essential is traveling on board the MSC Opera with around 1,800 passengers, out of a total capacity of 2,300. The numbers will increase in the coming weeks as the festive season approaches. Almost 700 crew members are at work. The Madeira–Tenerife connection is the last night for most passengers, as it is the main port for this operation. Boarding is permitted in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands, and in Funchal, Madeira.

This MSC Opera operation offers cruises on an average week, with some 8- and 9-night rotations. It calls at Santa Cruz de Tenerife (at the island of Tenerife), Arrecife (the capital of Lanzarote), Las Palmas (in Gran Canaria), Puerto del Rosario (in Fuerteventura), and Santa Cruz de La Palma (the capital of La Palma), on an itinerary that always promises spring-like temperatures.

For passengers from mainland Portugal, MSC Cruises offers packages that include flights from Lisbon and Oporto.
