Madeira Wine Festival

This year there will be no allegorical parade, but the intention is to strengthen the street festival

According to the regional secretary of Tourism and Culture, Paula Cabaço, the loss of the usual allegorical parade on this festivity, gave rise to other incentives and the same affirms that "the fact that it does not take place this year does not mean that this celebration is not resumed in the next events ".

To replace the parade, the wine festival presents visitors with "27 hours of cultural programming and tourist animation", in this edition, with various musical performances, theatrical, and even dance performances.

The purpose of this change, according to Paula Cabaço's speech, is to focus on street animation, especially on Avenida Arriaga, and enrich the connection of this festivity to culture, highlighting different forms of artistic expression.

In this initiative, the wine history, the valorization of the counties with this tradition, the Regional Craft Pavilion and the Madeira Wine to be visited, the Wine Market, the Madeira Wine Lounge, the Grape Festival and the Farmer in Porto the Cross, the Harvest Festival in the Strait of Câmara de Lobos, lots of music, plays and singing.

The investment in this party, by the Regional Government of Madeira, is about 260,000 euros and tourist occupation rate of 88.3%.

In the first semestre of 2018, the production and marketing of Madeira Wine registered growth of 15% in quantity and 11% in value, compared to the same period in 2017.

This event takes place between August 26 to September 9.
