Gastronomic festival returns to the Belmond Reids Palace.
The Belmond Reid’s has once again gathered a star-studded cast for another edition of The Art of Flavours festival, taking place over the weekend (until Sunday 16th June). Luís Pestana, executive chef for the hotel and the William restaurant, awarded one Michelin star, hosts seven other chefs awarded in the red guidebook for two tasting dinners.
Guest chefs features: Oscar Velasco, from the Santcelonu Restaurant in Madrid, awarded stars; Davide Bisetto, from the Oro Restaurant – Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice, awarded 1 star; Julia Komp from Germany, awarded 1 star; Pedro Almeida, from the Midori – Penha Longa Resort in Sintra, Portugal, warded 1 Michelin star; Andrea Bernadi & Fernanda Fuentes Cárdenas from the NUB Restaurant in Tenerife, Spain, awarded 1 Michelin star; Óscar Gonçalves, from the G Restaurant in Bragança, Portugal, awarded 1 Michelin star.
One of the goals of this second edition is highlighting the work of the chefs in the Belmond hotels, who are presented to the public as Rising Star Chefs.
The Rising Stars invited to Madeira this year were Rudi Liedenberg, from the Belmont Mount Nelson in Cape Town and Alessandro Cozzolino, from the Belmond San Michele, in Florence, respectively representing South-African and Italian flavours throughout the master classes to be held, like in the Food Party.
The event takes off on Friday 14th June, with the Masterclasses held in the Hotel’s greenrooms by Rudi Liedenberg and Alessandro Cozzolino.
Saturday sees the 8 Michelin chefs, 2 Rising Superstar Chefs and the 5 Sous-Chefs of the Belmond Reid’s Palace gather in the Hotel’s pool area. There will be about 30 food and beverages stalls, including over 40 references in terms of wines. This buffet dinner will allow for a greater contact with the chefs and some of their suggestions.
The dinner starts with champagne and Calvisius caviar, and finishes with the pairing of handmade chocolate and Madeira wine. This edition also features a Cigar Lounge area, with ‘Real Feytoria Reserva’ cigars hand-rolled in the ‘Fábrica de Tabacos Micaelense’, and available to be paired with a Madeiran cognac.
Food is prepared to the live music of DJ Hernandez, and the evening is painted against the backdrop of the Atlantic Festival’s fireworks, over the bay of Funchal and with the musical performance of Da Chick.
The Art of Flavours ends with a tasting dinner at the William Restaurant on Sunday the 16th, featuring a menu of seven courses devised by the 8 Michelin Chefs together.
Chef Davide Bisetto is presenting a tortellini d’ossobuco and Chef Julia Komp a Hiramasa Kingfish. Luís Pestana bets on local fish, going with Swordfish with caviar, lobster and anise. The dinner is to be paired with Esporão wines.
Both events are set to start at 7: 30 p.m., guests being advised to book their place in advance.
Price per person to participate in this experience is of 150 euro for the Food Party and 200 euro for the Stars Dinner. The special price of 80 euro is available to those wishing to attend both dinner services.
